The code was part of the Sight agent generator that has been released by Ulm university under GPL in about 2003. It is a tiny piece of the monstrous system that still can be found on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsight/ yet is no longer under development. It was written by Audrius Meskauskas at time when he was a post doctoral researcher there.
This translator uses standard genetic code and can translate in any of the 3 possible frames on either chain. It automatically discards spaces and numbers from the input, allowing to feed GenBank sequences directly.
Java applet was newly written in 2010, by the same author, to wrap the translator. Source code of reverse complement applet (BSD license) has been integrated.
